Stationary Hydrophone Data Collected in the Upper Colorado River, Colorado, 2021-24
This data release contains audio data collected from 2021 to 2024, expanding on the dataset collected for a 2019 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) study which tested the use of hydrophones to detect bedload mobilization and identify a streamflow threshold at which bedload began to mobilize (mobilizing flows) in the Upper Colorado River (Kohn and others, 2020). This child item contains audio files collected by hydrophones deployed in the Colorado River during the spring and summers of 2021–24. Each spring, four hydrophones were deployed in pairs between the water surface and the streambed of the Colorado River near the site used by Kohn and others (2020), approximately 3 miles upstream from the USGS streamgage 09060799 Colorado River at Catamount Bridge, Colorado. Each of the hydrophones recorded one minute of audio every fifteen minutes from the initial deployment until they were retrieved in late summer after spring runoff.
