Radar-determined locations of flying animals along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains, Wyoming, 2023 and 2024
A pair of modified marine radars were deployed at two locations, the Clark's Fork Fish Hatchery (near Powell, Wyoming) and the Timber Creek Ranger Station (near Meeteetse, Wyoming), during the summer of 2023 and 2024. The radars collected data on flying animals with a focus on army cutworm (Euxoa auxiliaris) moths within a couple kilometers of the radars during most of the army cutworm moth summer migration from the Great Plains into the Rocky Mountains. Data collected can be used to derive target abundance, altitude, and flight speed and direction.
