Nearshore Wave Observations Made Near South Padre Island, Texas, August 2018–February 2019 (ver. 1.1, November 2020)
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, Texas, deployed an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) to measure surface wave, pressure, and current-velocity data approximated 1-mile (1.61-kilometers) offshore from South Padre Island, Texas during August 2018–February 2019. The data were collected by using a trawl-resistant Teledyne Oceanscience Barnacle53 mounted uplooking ADCP deployed on the seabed. This part of the data release contains the data pertaining to wave velocities. Raw observations were collected at 1-minute intervals but are reported as the average values for to 10-minute intervals. All times are represented in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The measurements can be used to explore the oceanographic and sediment-transport processes associated with near-shore and beach erosion and deposition patterns.
