Liquid water content of coastal California fog events, San Mateo County
Liquid water content (LWC) measurements were collected during coastal fog events using specialized fog water collection units outfitted with six flat panel mesh collector frames. Simultaneous meteorological measurements were collected for four variables: wind, temperature, humidity, and solar radiation. The dataset includes ~12,000 records for two sites. Site one is in a grassland near the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) Skyline Field Office (SFO) (WGS 84 Latitude 37.310723, Longitude -122.186204). The second site is in a Douglas fir forest clearing, 50 feet west of the MROSD North Purisima (NPUR) trailhead (Latitude 37.45018, Longitude -122.339407) parking lot. The fog collector consistes of six one-m2 frames. Each frame is outfitted with a different mesh configuration: coated or uncoated and one of three mesh types: 1) double-layer of 35% shade coefficient polyurethane Raschel mesh; 2) stainless steel 0.02 in, 49% shade coeffient wire mesh, or 3) FogHaTin, a 3-dimensional specialty textile polyurethane weave. The coating is a NBD-Nano hydrophobic formulation. Data were collected at SFO in 2016 and 2017 and at NPUR in 2017.
