60-Minute Precipitation Intensity (I60) Estimates for a One-Year Recurrence Interval for the Continental United States

This dataset provides 60-minute precipitation intensity (I60) estimates for a one-year recurrence interval for the Continental United States as a cloud-optimized GeoTIFF (COG). The raster reports precipitation intensities in millimeters per hour. The majority of the data in the raster is reformatted from NOAA Atlas 14. However, NOAA Atlas14 data was not available for Washington and Oregon at the time of processing, so data in these states were derived from NOAA Atlas 2. Please refer to the processing step metadata for the methodology used to derive precipitation intensity estimates from NOAA Atlas 2. This release is intended to facilitate programmatic access to 60-minute precipitation intensity estimates. This is supported by the COG format, which allows software tools to efficiently access the data over an internet connection. The COG raster spans the continental United States at a nominal 790 x 925 meter resolution. The spatial reference is EPSG: 4326, which is often referred to as WGS-84. The COG has float32 precision and the NoData value (NaN) indicates raster pixels that lack precipitation intensity data. The COG format uses deflate compression internally to reduce file size. As such, although the COG has a nominal file size of <8 MB, loading the full dataset into active memory will require ~82 MB. This dataset was produced by running the `build_datasets.py` Python script included in this dataset's parent item (https://doi.org/10.5066/P1499TUY). Please refer to the script for the source code and documentation.
