      <purpose>These data were compiled and created as part of the groundwater availability 
study of the Upper Cretaceous and lower Tertiary geohydrologic units in the 
Williston and Powder River structural basins.  These data are intended for 
regional use and may not be as accurate at local or point scales.</purpose>
      <supplinf>The files listed below are supplemental to the USGS SIR SIR 2014–5047 titled 
“Hydrogeologic Framework of the Uppermost Principal Aquifer Systems in the 
Williston and Powder River Structural Basins, United States and Canada” and 
should not be used without an understanding of what the files represent.  To read

      <attraccr>The areal extents of the six bedrock hydrogeologic units were simplified and modified from existing digital State and Province geologic maps. The scale of the original data sources ranged from 1:500,000 to 1:1,000,000. Polygons and erratic line segments less than 1.2 miles (mi) [2 kilometers (km)] in length from the existing digital geologic maps were removed for the map in figure 2. Discrepancies in hydrogeologic unit extents at political boundaries were merged by either adjusting extents equally on either side of the political boundary or by using bedrock-surface maps to guide location of unit extents.</attraccr>
    </attracc>
    <logic>All of the extents were checked to ensure there were no areas where younger units extended out past older units.</logic>
