This release contains data from acceleration data logger (ADL) float packages designed to 'pop-off' in a set amount of time for recovery and platform terminal transmitter (PTT) satellite tags attached to 12 Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempii) and 7 Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) turtles in several geographic locations, using the methods of Hart et al., 2013. These instrument packages collected acceleration, depth, environmental temperature, and spatial data. Pilot testing of the pop-off instrument packages was conducted in the Dry Tortugas (one Loggerhead) and Pascagoula, MS (one Kemp's ridley), in September 2018 and September 2019, respectively; data from these pilot tests are included in this data release. Ten packages (all Kemp's ridley) were applied to individuals caught during trawling operations in Ship Shoal, LA in July 2022. One Ship Shoal tag was not recovered. An additional 7 were applied to individuals caught in Sabine Banks, TX in July 2023 (6 Loggerhead, 1 Kemp's ridley): all tags recovered. Instrument data have been subset to the period that the ADL packages were directly attached to the individual, and satellite location data are provided in their entirety.
      <purpose>These data were collected to investigate sea turtle behavior following capture and release during trawling operations using fine-scale acceleration data logger packages.</purpose>
      <supplinf>All turtles tagged in 2022 and 2023 were outfitted with the axy-5 by Technosmart Inc. These tags were programmed to record acceleration at 50 Hz, the magnetic field at 2 Hz, and depth/temperature at 1 Hz. Individuals tagged in 2023 had a programming error that caused depth readings to be NULL and temperature readings to have coarse (1 C) resolution. The two pilot individuals in Pascagoula and the Dry Tortugas were outfitted with the G6A+ tag made by Cefas (Centre for environment, fisheries, and science) based in the United Kingdom. These tags were not outfitted with a magnetometer and therefore do not have a "*_Mag.csv" file. Temperature readings have been linearly interpolated to 1 Hz, and acceleration measurements were recorded at 25 Hz.

    <overview>
      <eaover>These zip files contain acceleration, depth/temperature, and magnetometer measurements taken from Loggerhead and Kemp's ridley individuals outfitted with pop-off ADL packages. Data have been clipped to the period the package was directly attached to the individual, as determined from identified data patterns that suggest the tag had released and was drifting on the surface.

In addition to the instrument measurements, ancillary data on the individuals are included for identification purposes. Basic measurements and tag information can be found in the file: BOEM_TurtlesAncillaryData.csv. Additionally, all individuals except for one were outfitted with PTT Argos tags and those data are provided in their entirety in the file: BOEM_Turtles_ArgosData_2025-08-26.csv.</eaover>
