    <descript>
Bulk organic geochemical, major and trace element, and mineralogical data have been collected for core and cuttings samples of the Eocene Green River Formation from thirty-four wells in the Uinta Basin of Utah. The samples were collected from the U.S. Geological Survey Core Research Center in Denver, CO and the Utah Core Research Center in Salt Lake City, UT and represent multiple distinct stratigraphic intervals, including several that are being targeted for tight oil production in the northwestern part of the basin. These data have been collected since the previous assessment of the informal Uteland Butte member of the Green River Formation in 2015 and will inform future research and assessments of this unique lacustrine petroleum system. Much of this data is also relevant to various other petroleum-related resources (oil shale, gilsonite, tar sands) in eastern and southern parts of the basin.
      <purpose>This dataset was acquired to support research into and assessments of the petroleum resources associated with the Eocene Green River Formation in Uinta Basin, UT, particularly the continuous oil and gas resources in units within the lower part of the Green River Formation like the informal Uteland Butte member and the underlying Wasatch Formation.</purpose>
      <supplinf>The data release includes one .csv file (GRF_Data_All_Wells.csv) containing the datasets and one .csv file with the data dictionary (GRF_Column_description.csv).</supplinf>

      <attraccr>Quality control information on USGS methods is available from USGS Petroleum Geochemistry Research Laboratory (PGRL). Quality control procedures for analyses performed by PGRL and outside laboratories included the use of geochemical reference materials with established acceptance criteria for measured values of concentrations and other parameters. Replicate analyses were also performed to ensure reproducibility. All depths were estimated based on core markings and represent depth from ground surface and all latitude and longitude coordinates are reported using the NAD83 datum.</attraccr>

        <procdesc>Sample preparation involved powdering core or cuttings material according to procedures established by the USGS Petroleum Geochemistry Research Laboratory (PGRL). Most samples were analyzed for total carbon, total organic carbon (TOC), and programmed temperature pyrolysis by PGRL (Oliver and Warden, 2020; Dreier and Warden, 2021). Samples with TOC values below 0.5 weight percent were not analyzed by programmed temperature pyrolysis. PGRL also facilitated analyses by outside commercial laboratories, including AGAT Laboratories and SGS Mineral Services, who measured major and trace element concentrations on selected samples using a USGS method (U.S. Geological Survey Mineral Resources Program, 2019a). For some analyses conducted by these contract laboratories, some major (Ca, Si) and minor elements (Ba) exceeding the reporting limit for the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) optical emission spectroscopy and mass spectrometry method were analyzed by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (U.S. Geological Survey Mineral Resources Program, 2019b). Similarly, for samples with sulfur (S) content exceeding the ICP method reporting limit, a combustion-based method was used instead (U.S. Geological Survey Mineral Resources Program, 2019c). A smaller subset of samples was also analyzed for X-ray diffraction mineralogy by USGS staff using in-house methods. Some mineral phases have been grouped (e.g., potassium feldspars, illite/muscovite, high and low iron ankerite).</procdesc>
