    <descript>
This is a data release of a .csv file that provides measurements of structural features in the Grand Canyon region. These data document structural attitudes, used to describe the orientations of geologic features in three dimensions. Included fields describe the type of geologic feature mentioned, the azimuth and inclination of the measurement (for planar data these correspond to the strike and dip of the feature in right-hand-rule azimuth convention), and the geologic unit from which the measurement was collected. Confidence fields describe the geologist's confidence that the feature was correctly identified, and the measurement precision expressed in degrees of uncertainty. Location information are given in latitude and longitude, as well as a confidence field to convey the location uncertainty. Measurements are attributed individually to the source of the orientation information and the positional information.

This release includes data compiled for a publication in preparation and includes measurements of jointing near the Grand Canyon south rim. These data document the fracture patterns that may influence groundwater flow in the area.
      <purpose>Structural measurements were collected during geologic mapping and scientific investigations in the Grand Canyon region. These data, of geologic orientation information, can be used to better characterize the geologic structure and tectonic history of the region, as well as influence of the geology to groundwater flow.</purpose>

The attribute field IdentityConfidence conveys the geologist's confidence that the feature that was measured is correctly identified as described in the Type field. The attribute field OrientationConfidenceDegrees conveys the geologist's confidence in the measuring equipment, expressed in a value of degrees. These values may be null (populated with -9999) if not provided.</attraccr>

      <procstep>
        <procdesc>Structural measurements were collected by geologists as part of an in-progress geologic mapping effort. Measurements were largely collected in the field using standard structural geology methods including measurements with a Brunton compass or by digital device. Some measurements, mostly those attributed in the DataSourceID field to G. Billingsley, were collected presumably using a combination of aerial imagery and field observations, though the details pertaining to specific measurements are no longer available.

Measurements were logged digitally into a geologic mapping database using the GeMS schema. The data for v1.0 of this data release were filtered spatially and by attribute to include measurements of joint attitudes within 10 kilometers of selected springs near the Grand Canyon south rim. The filtered data were exported from ArcGIS Pro and edited in Microsoft Excel to remove unneeded fields of the GeMS schema in preparation for this data release.</procdesc>
