These data along with continuous monitoring at several locations (data provided through NWIS) are used to monitor bottom salinity and tidal currents associated with a project to better monitor X2 (position of 2 PSU [Practical Salinity Units] isohaline) in the lower Sacramento River and Suisun Bay, CA. Links to NWIS sites are provided in the associated web links under 'Related External Resources'. Data included in this data release are 15-minute water column velocity data at discrete bins and 3 locations along the lower Sacramento and Suisun Bay, CA. There are additional figures (.png files) and animations (.avi files) included in this data release, in order to familiarize the user with the content of the data. A publication will be associated with this data release in the future.

The ADCP's were deployed on the bed and oriented to measure water velocity (or currents) from near the bed vertically to near surface. Raw data (.PD0 files) were recorded and stored (in 1-minute intervals) on a Campbell Scientific data logger (CR6).</procdesc>

        <procdesc>Raw binary .PD0 files were converted to machine readable format in Matlab software. Data were checked visually and screened for questionable data that occurred near surface. Data were then averaged to 15-minute intervals. Data were rotated from East-North velocity components to along-stream and cross-stream (X and Y components) based on principle direction of flow recorded by the ADCP. Signal strength (RSSI) was converted to backscatter by accounting for along beam attenuation (Deines, 1999 and Mullison 2017). Data were output into .csv files.</procdesc>

    <overview>
      <eaover>There are 9 .csv files for each site. All files are contained in a the zipped folder - Suisun Bay UL ADCP Data.zip. The name of each file contains the location and data type. For instance 'CM 24 Along-channel velocity' contains along-channel velocity data at site CM 24. Columns are denoted by M, and rows denoted by N. The 'time stamp' files have 1 column of data (M x 1) that has the time in PST (Pacific Standard Time) for each site, the 'ranges' files have 1 row of data (1 x N) for each increment along the water column data was collected. The 'water surface' files have 1 column of data (M x 1) indicating the distance (from the ADCP to the water surface. The velocity and backscatter files have a data matrix (M x N), columns align with the ranges and rows align with the time stamps.

There is also a meta Data.txt file with the same information, but in a easier format to read.</eaover>
