These data include bark and ambrosia beetle (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) species directly reared from ʻōhiʻa lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) wood infected with either Ceratocystis lukuohia or Ceratocystis huliohia, the pathogens responsible for Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death (ROD). Rearing took place on Kauaʻi between January 2020 and November 2021.
<purpose>Data were collected to understand the ambrosia beetle communities associated with rapid ʻōhiʻa death (ROD) on Kauaʻi and to inform disease management decisions on the island.</purpose>

<procdesc>Bolts were collected from previously tested ʻōhiʻa lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) trees throughout Kauaʻi Island, ranging between 138-910 m in elevation. Testing for the presence of Ceratocystis lukuohia and C. huliohia DNA was conducted via quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) (Heller and keith 2018) at United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Services-Daniel K. Inouye-U.S. Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center (USDA-ARS-DKI-PBARC) in Hilo, HI from samples collected by Kauaʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and Kauaʻi Invasive Species Committee (KISC) crews. Upon positive DNA confirmation, DOFAW and KISC returned to the infected trees and randomly selected a ~50 cm-long portion of the stem to be cut and transferred to the lab for rearing insects contained in the bolt between January 2020 and November 2021. Bolts were transported to the lab and placed in rearing chambers consisting of pop-up mesh terrarium cages (60 x 40 cm) on top of white computer paper for 3-4 months.
