Moving boat (MB) acoustic Doppler current profile (ADCP) measurements collected at discrete cross-sections over an ~1.5 kilometer stretch of False River, near the San Joaquin River, CA. These data were collected on four separate days in March of 2022, and are georeferenced and depth-averaged. Side looking (SL) ADCP data was also georeferenced to provide an index for the moving boat ADCP measurements.
<purpose>Collectively these data sets are used to document velocity patterns from a notch in a rock barrier that was installed in False River. The velocity maps from the MB-ADCP measurements are indexed to the SL-ADCP data in order to infer velocity patterns over a larger temporal range. These indexed velocity maps are then used as a covariate for fish predation analysis.</purpose>

<procdesc>Raw data MB-ADCP data was collected with WinRiver II.

Data was QA/QC'ed in WinRiver II, by inspection of collection parameters and graphical inspection of data files. These data were collected, reviewed and processed in accordance to methods and standards of Mueller et al., 2013.

Raw data was processed using velocity mapping toolbox (VMT) version 4.06. Repeated transects at a river cross-section were averaged into a single velocity profile for that location. Parameters used in processing with VMT. Horizontal grid spacing of 1 m, vertical grid spacing of 0.25 m, horizontal smoothing window of 3, and vertical smoothing window of 3. These methods are also outlined in Parsons et al., 2013.</procdesc>

<procdesc>SL-ADCP data was collected at the USGS gage station 11313440, False R NR Oakley CA. These data were collected in accordance with methods from Levesque and Oberg 2012. Normally the water velocity data is stored as an average for the river cross-section, every 15 minutes. For this study we wanted to examine finer temporal and spatial resolution, so we collected data at every location along the river cross-section, a total 34 bins every minute, and this data is included in the data release.</procdesc>
