      <eaover>These files are time series of 4 permeability tests and 36 triaxial fracture experiments. All tests were conducted at the USGS Rock Deformation Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA.

PERMEABILITY TESTS.
Experiments were performed on 24.5 mm diameter cylinders of 4 different rock types. Rock type and sample length were as follows:

Berea sandstone, L = 56.567 mm
Wilkeson sandstone, L = 49.860 mm
Crab Orchard sandstone, L = 49.911 mm
Sierra white granite, L = 49.809 mm

All samples were surface ground on ends and circumference before testing. Deionized water was used for all tests. Confining and pore pressures were held constant to measure permeability under steady flow rate conditions and applying Darcy’s law to calculate permeability from measured flow rate. For Berea sample, flow rate and pressure drop across the sample oscillated by approximately 15 percent due to pressure control limitation of the pore pressure pump. Pressure drop and flow rate were averaged over a minimum time interval of 300 seconds to calculate permeability. Samples with lower permeability were measured for longer time intervals to obtain sufficient flow for flow rate calculations.
We define effective confining pressure as (confining pressure – pore pressure). Then, for each sample, effective confining pressure was cycled three times in the sequence: 10, 30, 60, 100, 30, 60, 100, 30, 60, 100 [MPa]. Permeability was measured at each effective confining pressure step. Because of the high flow rates, the low pressure side of the Berea sample was vented to atmospheric pressure and the high pressure side ranged between approximately 0.07 and 0.11 MPa. All other tests were conducted with pore pressure controlled on high and low sides, respectively, of 10.5 and 9.5 MPa, for a pore pressure drop of 1.0 MPa. Columns in data files are

STRENGTH TESTS.
Experiments were performed on 25.4 mm diameter rock cylinders with nominal lengths of 63.5 mm. Experiments were at room temperature, constant confining pressure and constant axial shortening rate of 0.635 microns/sec (nominal strain rate of 1x10^-5 sec^-1), with or without pore water. All data were recorded at 1 second time intervals. Experiments were grouped as follows
