This Geographic Information System dataset contains a shapefile of the watershed drainage area boundaries for the 15 watersheds which were used in the study in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The watersheds were delineated with StreamStats.
<purpose>The purpose of this dataset is to provide the watershed drainage area boundary Geographic Information System shapefile that define the 15 Gwinnett County study watersheds. The watershed drainage areas were used for determining many watershed characteristics used in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Scientific Investigations Report "Hydrology, water-quality, and watershed characteristics in 15 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia, 2002-20". This study is part of a long-term program to monitor and analyze the hydrologic and water-quality conditions of 15 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia by the USGS in cooperation with Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources.</purpose>

<attraccr>StreamStats (U.S. Geological Survey, 2021a) delineates watershed drainage areas using digital elevation data from the USGS 3D Elevation Program. The elevation data has been specially processed such that elevations match the digital stream channels in the high-resolution version of the National Hydrography dataset (U.S. Geological Survey, 2021b) and result in the same basin boundaries as the Watershed Boundary Dataset. Digital elevation data, particularly in flat areas, can lead to errors in delineating drainage boundaries.
