This data release is an updated compilation of published and unpublished thermal maturity and source rock geochemical data (RockEval, pyrolysis) from subsurface wells and outcrops in the Permian Basin, west Texas and southeast New Mexico. This version clarifies the dispersed organic matter group for thermal maturity measurements, adds new data, references, and updates subsurface unit names.
<purpose>The dataset was created for the Energy Resources Program’s (ERP) National and Global Assessment of Oil and Gas Assessment (NAGA) project, which documents technically recoverable conventional and unconventional (continuous) oil and gas resources in priority basins in the US and abroad. These data record spatial and temporal variations in thermal maturity and source rock geochemistry of petroleum-bearing units in the Permian Basin of west Texas and southeast New Mexico. Typically these types of data are obtained and analyzed by petroleum industry operators and results are kept confidential. This updated data release (version 2.0) clarifies the dispersed organic matter group for thermal maturity measurements, adds new data, references, and updates subsurface unit names. This data release remains the largest public repository of source rock geochemistry and thermal maturity data for the Permian Basin Province since 2005.</purpose>
<supplinf>Subsurface unit and formation names determined by the author and approved by USGS Geologic Names committee. This data release consists of two files, geochemical data and detailed references of the source.</supplinf>
