This dataset records mortality-- including involvement of bark beetles-- and burn severity information for trees in long term forest dynamics plots in Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park that experienced fire.
These data were used to examine relationships between fire, drought, competition and tree mortality.

Quality assurance checks are three fold:
1) The forms used to collect the data had error checks associated with various fields to prevent obvious errors.
2) Field technicians check data at the end of each plot
3) During analysis, additional errors were identified and filtered.
Checks described in attribute accuracy report
These data are a subset from an ongoing project that is expected to continue indefinitely but are considered complete to support the associated manuscript cited in the identification information.
Data were collected in long term research plots where trees are mapped, measured, and identified to species. Each tree is visited annually to check for mortality and periodically re-measured for diameter to capture growth. Trees that die are evaluated for factors associated with mortality. After each fire, trees were evaluated for fire damage, including visual estimations of crown volume scorch.
