This dataset assesses the responses of native (largemouth bass Micropterus salmoide and bluegill Lepomis macrochirus) and invasive (silver carp Hypophthalmichthys. Molitrix) fishes to an acoustic stimulus (playback of a 100 hp boat motor. Fish were collected from the Illinois River and Emiquon Preserve and implanted with a Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag. Fish movement was monitored using PIT antennas installed in a water control structure (WCS) that connects the Emiquon Preserve to the Illinois River.
<purpose>Data was collected to assess if an acoustic fish deterrent would reduce or alter passage of invasive bigheaded carps and/or native fish species into Emiquon Preserve from the Illinois River</purpose>
<supplinf>Data is stored in Excel Spreadsheet, .wav sound files, .m MatLab files .wav file description: Through the process of sound mapping, underwater playback of a previously recorded 100 hp Honda 4-stroke outboard motor traveling at 32 km/h was projected in each culvert in the water control structure at Emiquon Preserve. This playback was recorded underwater using a Sound Trap 300 STD hydrophone at 37 different locations within the vicinity of the acoustic deterrent system. Each .wav file represents the recording at specific locations as sound was projected from both culverts seperatly.
