Envisioning a national invasive species information framework
Volume 22, Issue 1

The dataset catalogs and describes existing online, federally supported databases and tools dealing with various aspects of a potential national Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) invasive species framework.
This dataset is supplementary material 2 and 3 to the manuscript, "Envisioning a national invasive species information framework" (Reaser et al., 2020) published as part of a special open source issue dealing with invasive species early detection and rapid response by the journal Biological Invasions, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2020 (https://link.springer.com/journal/10530/22/1).
A user-friendly version of this dataset is also available online as a USGS Library Guide, here: https://libraryguides.usgs.gov/edrrinvasive
With a view toward creating a national invasive species early detection and rapid response program, the United States National Invasive Species Council (NISC) Management Plan for 2016-2018 calls for a series of assessments of federal EDRR capacities, including the evaluation of "relevant federal information systems to provide the data and other information necessary for risk analyses/horizon scanning, rapid specimen identification, and rapid response planning." This dataset is supplementary material to a manuscript written in response to that directive. Our intention, though not a guarantee, is that this catalog will be continually and regularly updated with new information (including corrections), made publicly available online and in a machine-readable web service format, and be clearly labeled with a release date.
Initial creation of the spreadsheets was in Google Drive, Mac OS Chrome Version 70.0.3538.110 (Official Build) (64-bit) and cross platform, and exported to MS Excel. Version 2.0 was created in MS Excel.

All links were checked prior to publishing. Each site was proposed by an author and reviewed by at least two other reviewers. The Vocabulary tab (whose elements are included in 'entity and attribute') was created as a data dictionary and reference to ensure standard cataloguing by authors.
We have checked for both duplications and omissions and the matchup of details with actual data.
The dataset includes federally hosted or funded databases and tools that deal with invasive species early detection and rapid response within the United States of America.
