Data is primarily type fossils from the USGS Menlo Park vertebrate Cenozoic Paleontology Collection created and maintained by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Data was collected by paleontologist Charles A. Repenning during his forty years of service within the USGS Paleontology And Stratigraphy Branch. His catalog was converted into digital form, Excel and Filemaker Pro database. The Catalog is 516 fossil localities. His supplementary data has been added whenever possible - sources field map locality points, E&R files with enhanced faunal lists, as well as formal publications.
For the complete traditional dataset, please contact Kevin Mckinney (kcmckinney@usgs.gov).

Data was primarily the typed USGS Menlo Park vertebrate Cenozoic Paleontology Collection created and maintained by USGS Paleontologist Charles A. Repenning during his forty years of service in the Paleontology and Stratigraphy Branch. His catalogs were converted into digital form (Excel and Filemaker Pro database). The Catalog is 500+ fossil localities. His supplementary data has been added whenever possible - sources field map locality points, E&R files with enhanced faunal lists, as well as formal publications. I have also added fauna lists from recent detailed inventory. Data conversions were projected and compared to original analog field map locality points.
Conversion from analog PLSS and text-based spatial data is a critical component of this electronic release. Thousands of locality points were created by projecting filed maps over USGS DRG map base. PLSS data were also converted using DRG maps. Tests were conducted for accuracy of conversion results by projecting localities on to several 7.5 min topography sheets and comparing results to original field map locality points.
Data set is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.
A formal accuracy assessment of the horizontal positional information in the data set has not been conducted.
A formal accuracy assessment of the vertical positional information in the data set has either not been conducted, or is not applicable.
Analog data was created by Charles A. Repenning converted to digital data by Kevin C. McKinney. Spatial data in the original catalog were given in township/range section. Those were converted to decimal degree data to latitude and longitude.
