This dataset is a binary input representing irrigated areas (during 'dry' years) as a raster dataset. Parcels identified as being irrigated are assigned a value of 1 while non-irrigated areas are assigned a value of 0.
This raster is one of 9 inputs used to calculate the "Normalized Importance Index."
<purpose>The data presented here will be used as a tool to support landscape-scale conservation planning and evaluation by the WLCI community.</purpose>

<useconst>There are no use constraints for this data set. Please note that this data is designed to be used at a coarse scale. The WLCI is composed of multiple types of land ownership (including federal, state and private entities). This analysis is not intended to highlight private lands; however, all land ownership types were included since this is a landscape scale analysis in line with the mission of the WLCI. In addition, updates are made at irregular intervals by the agencies and organizations from which the data was collected. This product is considered a static data set and should be treated accordingly.</useconst>

        <procdesc>From original data producers:
Vermilion maximum irrigation extent was created using remote sensing imagery. To derive the irrigation extent a calculated Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was utilized, called NDVI STAR, a process created by HydroBio, Inc. NDVI STAR was used to identify the maximum boundary of vegetation within the delineated irrigation parcels designated from the irrigated parcels shapefile produced by HydroBio, Inc.
In cooperation with Leonard Rice Engineers, Inc. and the State of Wyoming Engineer's office, HydroBio was designated to create a layer of irrigated acreage and subsequent consumptive use through the manipulation of remote sensing imagery for decision making purposes.
All irrigated parcels were included within the established sub-basin boundaries of the Green River basin.
1. 30 meter 1991, and 2001 Thematic Mapper (TM) 5 satellite imagery were used to identify the wet and dry seasons in the Vermilion sub-basin.
2. NDVI STAR was created from the 30 meter 1997 and 2002 TM 5 satellite imagery.
3. Irrigated Parcels shapefile was used in conjunction with the NDVI Star to identify maximum irrigation extent.
